LINCOLN, Neb. In an effort to develop or enhance shooting facilities across the state, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is accepting applications for the 2006-07 Shooting Range Grant Program.

Nonprofit gun clubs, government entities and political subdivisions that want to provide shooters with accessible, quality ranges may apply for a share of $60,000 in grant funds. A grant recipient may be reimbursed up to 75 percent of the project cost.

Since the Shooting Range Grant Program began in 2004, more than $320,000 in grant money has been used to improve Nebraska shooting ranges, help gun clubs enhance safety, and provide facilities for youth programs.

Applications can be printed from the commission's Web site at www.OutdoorNebraska.org, then mailed to the commission, which is accepting them through Jan. 31, 2007.

Some of the eligible projects include: shooting-range development or enhancement, benches, berms, baffles, trap throwers, trap/skeet, houses/fields, archery ranges, target holders, classrooms, lighting, sound abatement, and concrete walks and pads.
