Pictures of tying the Muddler Minnow  This is one of the great flies and has caught just about every variety of fish. Very good streamer fly for trout, but yesterday at HT pond I caught in excess of thirty large mouth bass, 13 to 17 inches, most of them caught on a floating line and the Muddler Minnow. What a day!

    List of Materials;  2 or 3 X long hook, size 4 to 12;  Thread, kevlar or strong rod winding thread, tan, grey, brown, black;   Tail and Wing; Turkey wing feather Preferably tan thru dark brown;    Body; Tinsel, about size 12, tied gold side out;     Under wing, white or black calf tail; Head, Deer hair for flared head.

_Tying: Wind thread full shank to back of barb, coat with head cement or clear fingernail polish, & with about 5/16 th"width fibers from turkey feather, ty on tail, holding feather between thumb and forefinger on top of hook and pushing toward eye of hook after first wrap to make tail stand higher. Tie in tinsel  gold side out, and wrap around hook for  about 2/3 rds of shank, coat with fingernail polish. Ty in about 1/8th" clump of calf tail, tips to halfway back on tail, & trim;  Ty in on side of hook  2 identical  5/16th" wide pieces of turkey feather, laid together with concave side of both toward tyer and points sticking up at a sharp angle, to make a high wing:   With a clump of deer hair as shown, short hairs removed, held against the near side of the hook, tips to rear to middle of tail, take snug wrap of thread, 2nd wrap tighter, 3rd wrap tighter yet, flairing the hair. same procedure on other side. Pull hair  back with fingers, wrapping with thread to hold hair back.Use same procedure until there is just room to tie the head. Trim to bullet shaped head, close and flat on bottom, leaving a few hair tips sticking back over wings and body. Options: Ty fly sparsley to sink better, fuller and leave more hair for floater.....Marabou underwing.....White deer hair, white feathers, tinsel tied silver side out for "Montana Spook"........ Hair and feathers yellow or other colors.
